What I’m Learning in My 40s About Confidence, Comparison, and Peace

To find peace, I had to take a step back and really look at what had been creating so much noise in my life. It was no surprise that constant comparison on social media was slowly destroying my confidence and happiness.

I became obsessed with social media—from the moment I woke up until scrolling late into the night. I found myself constantly looking at women in their 20s with perfect bodies, flawless skin, lifted features, and seemingly effortless beauty.

That kind of nonstop comparison became unhealthy. I lost confidence. I forgot I had a brain, goals, experience, and so much more to offer beyond appearance.

Having worked with plastic surgeons since I was 18 and spending many years in appearance-driven environments, social media only amplified old insecurities and body dysmorphia.

Instead of focusing on my future, I became consumed with thinking about cosmetic procedures and “fixing” myself.

Meanwhile, I’m in the process of getting licensed in real estate, learning transaction coordination, and building a beauty blog—yet I was giving all my mental energy to appearance.

Why I Took a Social Media Break

About two weeks ago, I finally thought: enough is enough.

I needed a break.

I traded Instagram scrolling for Pinterest, where I’ve been creating vision boards filled with recipes, home inspiration, and future goals. One of my dreams is to eventually build a home design business after I’m licensed.

I’ve also replaced endless scrolling with movies and shows that help me relax and unplug.

Romance movies may be cheesy, but they let my mind escape into something lighter and more fun.

Before taking a break from social media, I couldn’t even watch two minutes of a movie without checking my phone. I’d replay the same movie multiple times because I wasn’t present enough to follow it.

Recently, I binge-watched Sex/Life on Netflix and honestly loved it. It felt fun, exciting, and exactly the reset I needed.

Prioritizing Health in Your 40s Matters

Taking care of your health in your 40s is everything.

That doesn’t mean perfection. It means consistency.

I try to prioritize at least three workouts a week, whether that’s:

  • gym sessions
  • Pilates
  • yoga
  • stretching at home
  • ab work on lower-energy days

Some days my momentum is low, and I’m learning that honesty with yourself matters too.

Nutrition also plays a huge role in how we feel. I feel my best when I focus on lean proteins, vegetables, fruit, and being mindful of excess sugar and processed foods.

Romanticize This Chapter of Your Life

I’m also a big believer in romanticizing life.

Self-care. Journaling. A hot cup of tea. Soft music playing in the background. Slowing down enough to enjoy your own company.

These little habits have helped me shift from dreading aging to appreciating the wisdom that comes with it.

Here are my top 5 essentials for getting through your social media break.

  1. Journal… You’ll need somewhere to share your thoughts.
  2. Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Powder… This helps my skin, hair and joints while I stay active with life and fitness.
  3. Sunglasses every woman should own a nice pair of oversized sunglasses perfect for no makeup lots of errands type of day. Throw on a cute track suit, put your hair in a messy bun or braids and top off with these beautiful and affordable sunnies.
  4. Pink Matcha Tea Set… How cute is this blush pink set. It’s perfect for setting your new social media break aesthetic.
  5. Track Suit is one of the greatest essentials you can have in your closet. They don’t have to be expensive, buy a few sets different kinds, switch it up the colors put them together with your oversized sunnies and some cute sneakers.

Final Thoughts

If you’re in your 40s and feeling behind, overwhelmed, or stuck in comparison, you’re not alone.

Sometimes peace begins the moment we turn down the noise.
