Wow! 2024 has been nothing short of a roller coaster. The second half of the year has really forced me to restrategize my game plan on how to be the best version of myself. I lost my dog of 12 years and my relationship of 12 years. It truly broke my heart and humbled me, as I had to move back to my mother’s house and start all over at the age of 41.
I don’t drive due to some seizures in the past, which has made starting over even more challenging. I left behind what I knew to be my whole life at my ex-boyfriend’s house and neighborhood. My gym, pharmacy, yoga studio, shopping mall, and favorite restaurants were all just a short Uber ride away. Everything I was used to, including my own space—a separate room for my clothes, purses, makeup, and shoes—was back there.
Being back at my mom’s has been depressing, despite her efforts to make space for me and her nurturing support. Starting over has been rough, to say the least. However, being here has allowed me to explore the local neighborhood. I’ve discovered lots of new restaurants, cafes, a yoga studio, and my latest addiction: Pilates.
Pilates has been a game-changer for me, both physically and mentally. Using the reformer has shown me how to test my strength and engage all my body’s muscles. The workouts target all my problem areas, like bra fat, hamstrings, glutes, hips, and back. I feel powerful when I’m in class, and I leave feeling satisfied, renewed, and inspired.
Pilates has motivated me to lead a healthier lifestyle overall—not just with exercise, but also with nutrition and skincare. I’ve been drinking tons of water and eating fresh, organic food. Don’t get me wrong, I still indulge in calorie-rich, sugary, and processed foods, but I’m working on controlling those cravings. I’ve only been doing Pilates for a month, attending three classes a week, but I’m already feeling inspired to change my eating habits and commit to a strict diet in the new year.
I’m optimistic about 2025. It’s going to be a year full of opportunities, achieving weight goals, and, most importantly, finding happiness.
