If you’re considering a breast lift, know that this aesthetic journey involves thoughtful planning, careful research, and patience during the healing process. Taking the time to understand your goals and expectations is essential for achieving results you’ll love.

Research is a crucial first step, but it may not be enough on its own to define your aesthetic goals. Many patients benefit from working with a seasoned surgical consultant who can help guide decisions and recommend qualified surgeons.

With so many surgeons to choose from, how do you know which one is right for you? Start by asking yourself a few key questions:

• What is your budget?

• What city do you live in, and are you willing to travel?

• Will you have someone to care for you after surgery?

• Would you need a private nurse or recovery center?

If your budget allows, post-operative care can make a significant difference. A private nurse can assist with transportation, medication management, meals, and basic tasks, especially during the first few days when arm movement is limited. Many patients underestimate how challenging simple activities can be right after surgery.

You can research aftercare providers independently, but referrals from your surgeon’s office or consultant are often the most reliable.

Choosing the Right Surgeon

Once your logistics are planned, it’s time to select a surgeon. I always recommend consulting with more than one. Some surgeons specialize exclusively in breast procedures, while others perform a wide range of surgeries.

Start by evaluating your own goals. What would you like to enhance or correct? Being clear with yourself helps narrow your options.

Helpful research platforms include:

• Google

• RealSelf

• Instagram

Review surgeon websites, bios, before-and-after photos, testimonials, and patient reviews. While this can feel overwhelming, a surgical consultant or beauty advisor can simplify the process by recommending surgeons they trust and have worked with before.

Trust is everything. You should feel confident not only in your surgeon, but also in their staff and the treatment plan designed specifically for you. Every surgery should be customized to the individual.

Consultations & Planning

After narrowing your list, schedule consultations. Virtual consults are great for out-of-area patients, with an in-person appointment typically required before surgery to confirm final details.

Bring inspiration photos to communicate your goals clearly. Discuss:

• Implant profiles (moderate, high, ultra-high)

• Desired cleavage

• Over vs. under muscle placement

• Silicone vs. saline implants

Your surgeon should thoroughly explain each option so you can make informed decisions.

Understanding Scars & Incisions

A breast lift does involve scarring. Common techniques include:

Benelli lift (minimal scarring)

Lollipop lift

Anchor lift (most extensive scarring but sometimes necessary)

scars 2

These procedures often include areola resizing. If this is important to you, communicate your preferences openly.

Surgical Mesh (“Internal Bra”)

Some surgeons use surgical mesh, sometimes called an “internal bra,” to support implants and reduce strain on incisions. This mesh gradually dissolves over 8–12 months.

Opinions on mesh vary among surgeons, which is another reason multiple consultations are valuable. Experience and familiarity with newer techniques can differ from doctor to doctor.

Surgeon–Patient Relationship

Whether by email, video, or in person, your first meetings help build rapport. You’ll quickly sense if you feel comfortable and confident. Trust and communication are key when making such a personal investment in yourself.

I chose to work with Dr.Steven Svehlak because I valued his experience, natural aesthetic, and patient care approach. Meeting him in person helped me feel confident and informed going into surgery.

Recovery Essentials

Proper recovery care is critical for beautiful healing. Prepare your supplies ahead of time, I found these products to be very helpful in my healing process. Available on amazon.

Non-stick sterile pads

Antibacterial soap (like Dial)

Healing ointment

Medipore tape

Supportive post-operative bras

Surgical Post Pillows

Nutrition also plays a major role in recovery. A healthy diet supports your immune system, speeds healing, and helps maintain your physique while you’re temporarily less active.

A breast lift is a deeply personal decision that deserves thoughtful planning and expert guidance. When done carefully, it can be a rewarding investment in confidence and self-image.
